17th of November: Politechnio Day

Politechnio Day

Politechnio Day is a national day which is celebrated on the 17th of November. The Polytechic uprising occured in November 1973 as a massive student demonstration. It is about the students of Politechnio and those who died in a bloodshed attempt to bring back democracy and reject the Greek military junta of 1967-1974. They demonstrated using watchwords such as: "Here is Politechnio" and "Bread-Education-Freedom". They also kept informing people from their own radio station about the events that took place and asked for support.

This year most students of the third grade of  Ioneidios junior high school along with the school choir performed four short, symbolic acts based on the songs: "O dromos", "To gelasto paidi", "Ena to chelidoni", "Sti sigedrosi tis EFEE". Videos with photographs were shown and, at the end, two students read the names of the victims that lost their lives either being killed by the tanks after crashing the gates of the Athens Polytechnic or  by being shot in the streets.
