The banning of TikTok


    
TikTok has faced multiple near-bans all over the years, mostly in countries conserned about data privacy and national security. Here are some key moments:

United States

     2020: President Trump issued executive orders to ban TikTok, unless it was sold to an american company.The ban was delayed,and eventually blocked in court.

    2023-2025: The U.S. passed the law requiring Tik Tok either sell its U.S. operations or face a full ban in 2025.The issue is now heading to the Supreme Court, making its future uncairtain.

    April 2025: In April 2025,Tik Tok was banned for twenty four hours. Millions of people protested in the streets of New York and that was the cause to get unbanned.

India 

    June 2020: India fully banned Tik Tok, citing national security concerns amid tensions with China. The app was remained banned ever since.

Other countries 

    In Afganistan, Iran, and China Tik Tok was banned or just heavily restricted.
