At its heart, the X1 M35i xDrive is powered by the most potent four-cylinder engine from BMW's latest modular Efficient Dynamics engine family. This M-specific powertrain, equipped with M TwinPower Turbo technology, delivers an impressive 221 kW (300 hp) in Europe and up to 233 kW (317 hp) in the USA and select other regions.

This performance-packed engine enables the BMW X1 M35i xDrive to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 5.4 seconds, with its top speed electronically governed at 250 km/h. M-specific chassis technology, including the option of M Compound brakes for the first time in a performance-oriented BMW, works seamlessly with the intelligent BMW xDrive all-wheel-drive system to deliver exceptional performance.

The sharper handling and aggressive stance of the BMW X1 M35i xDrive are immediately evident both inside and out. Exclusive design elements, such as dual tailpipes and optional M Sport seats with illuminated M logos, further accentuate its high-performance pedigree.

Engine Innovations and Power Delivery:
At the core of the new BMW X1 M35i xDrive is a cutting-edge four-cylinder engine. This powerplant, part of the latest modular engine generation, incorporates numerous innovations that set it apart from its predecessor, such as the introduction of the Miller cycle, redesigned intake systems, and updated camshaft timing. The engine's M-specific features, such as a reinforced crankshaft and enhanced cooling channels, ensure its robust performance under demanding conditions.

The seven-speed Steptronic transmission in the new BMW X1 M35i xDrive stands out for its exceptionally fast gear changes. The steering wheel-mounted paddles allow for quick manual intervention in the gear selection process.

 

The M Sport Boost function is also available for explosive performance. Here, all drive and chassis systems take on their sportiest setting when the driver pulls the left paddle for at least one second.

With a peak torque of 400 Nm available from 2,000 to 4,500 rpm, the engine provides an exhilarating and linear power delivery. The M TwinPower Turbo technology, coupled with VANOS and VALVETRONIC variable valve timing systems, delivers enhanced efficiency and responsiveness. The engine’s dynamic output is matched by a sonorous exhaust note that echoes the M brand’s distinctive sound.

 

Transmission and Driving Modes:
The BMW X1 M35i xDrive is equipped with a seven-speed Steptronic dual-clutch transmission, offering quick gear shifts and the ability to manually intervene using steering wheel-mounted paddles. For explosive bursts of power, the M Sport Boost function optimizes all vehicle systems for maximum performance at the touch of a paddle.

Traction and Handling Precision:
BMW's intelligent xDrive all-wheel drive ensures that power is distributed efficiently between the front and rear axles, improving both traction and stability across various driving conditions. The system is seamlessly integrated with the vehicle’s chassis control technology, allowing for millisecond-quick torque delivery to the rear wheels when needed. A mechanical limited-slip differential further enhances agility and traction, especially when cornering at high speeds or driving on challenging surfaces.

 

M 19” alloy wheels standard.

19" M light-alloy wheels in a double-spoke design round off the special chassis specification of the new BMW X1 M35i xDrive. The standard light-alloy wheels are combined with tyres with a tread that is 20 mm wider than on the outgoing model, increasing the dynamic driving potential. 20" M light-alloy wheels in an exclusive double-spoke design and sports tyres are on the list of options.

Adaptive Suspension and Sports Steering:
The BMW X1 M35i xDrive is equipped with an adaptive M suspension that offers both enhanced comfort and dynamic handling. Mechanically controlled shock absorbers with selective damping adjust according to driving conditions, ensuring a smooth ride over irregular surfaces while maintaining sporty performance during aggressive cornering. With a 15mm reduction in ride height compared to other X1 models, the lowered stance enhances cornering capabilities. Additionally, the standard sports steering system provides quick, direct feedback, amplifying the driving experience.

 

The BMW M kidney grille of the new BMW X1 M35i xDrive bears the M logo. The grille also features horizontal double bars, a detail that was previously only found on high-performance models from BMW M GmbH. Viewed from the side of the top model in the range, the black M exterior mirror caps in twin-stalk design indicate its high prestige. Another distinctive feature is the four exhaust tailpipes - each with a diameter of 80 millimetres - integrated into the rear apron. As in the high-performance models mentioned above, these pairs of tailpipes, which are located on the left and right at the rear of the BMW X1 M35i xDrive, clearly indicate the presence of the top engine in this model range.

Similarly, the M-specific cockpit design contributes to creating a high-intensity performance experience inside the cabin. Highlights include an Alcantara instrument panel, Aluminium Hexacube Dark interior trim elements, an anthracite roof, M door sill trims, M pedals, the M-specific graphics of the BMW Curved Display - and optionally the BMW Head-Up Display - and an M leather steering wheel with gearshift paddles.

 

The standard equipment of the new BMW X1 M35i xDrive also includes black Sensatec/Alcantara sports seats with blue contrast stitching. These can alternatively be ordered in Vernasca upholstery with special diamond-shaped quilting. 

The list of options also includes M Sport seats with a wide range of electrical adjustments (including a memory function for the driver's seat). They feature integrated head restraints and are adorned with an illuminated M logo on the upper part of the backrest.

 

The intense sporty atmosphere of the cabin goes hand in hand with unlimited functionality. The rear seat backrests of the new BMW X1 M35i xDrive are split and foldable (40 : 20 : 40), while the angle of inclination of each section can also be adjusted individually. The optional fore/aft adjustment of the rear seats offers even greater flexibility. The luggage compartment capacity can be increased from 540 litres to a maximum of 1,600 litres.

Advanced options for precise personalization.

A model-specific M Sport package Pro is available as an option for the BMW X1 M35i xDrive. This adds M high-gloss Shadowline exterior elements with extensive content and M Shadowline lights to the car's already expressive design. It also includes the M Sport brake system with red calipers, as well as M Sport seats and M seat belts.

 

The new BMW X1 M35i xDrive comes standard with automatic dual-zone climate control, BMW Live Cockpit Plus including the BMW Maps navigation system, M roof rails in high-gloss black, automatic tailgate function and rain sensor with automatic headlight activation, as well as four USB-C ports and two 12V sockets. Available options that enhance the car's premium character include an interior and exterior mirror package, ambient lighting, a panoramic glass roof and a Harman Kardon sound system.

 

The M model is also available with a variety of cutting-edge systems that enable automated driving and parking. The standard equipment includes Forward Collision Warning, Cruise Control with braking function and Parking Assistant with Reversing Assist Camera and Reversing Assistant. Steering and Lane Control Assistant, Active Cruise Control with Stop&Go function, Active Navigation and Exit Warning, as well as Surround View, Remote 3D View, BMW Drive Recorder and Remote Theft Recorder are available as options. Existing functions can be upgraded via the Remote Software Upgrade option, which also allows new functions to be added (availability depends on the hardware installed in the vehicle and market conditions).

The new BMW X1 M35i xDrive is one of the brand's first models to feature the updated version of the BMW iDrive control/operation system with QuickSelect and BMW Operating System 9. To make the selection and operation of numerous functions and digital services even more intuitive and simple, the new generation of BMW iDrive offers a revised start screen and the QuickSelect function. The improved menu structure is inspired by consumer electronics. By displaying the right information in the right place, the new BMW iDrive enhances the driver's focus and confidence behind the wheel.

 

The updated BMW iDrive with QuickSelect in the new BMW X1 M35i xDrive is powered by BMW Operating System 9. This technology enables a wider range of digital content for information and entertainment, faster update cycles for functions and optimised access to many special online services. BMW iDrive with QuickSelect is also combined with the BMW Curved Display and the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. It is consistently designed for operation via touchscreen and natural language.

The new home screen of BMW Operating System 9 displays the map view of the navigation system or other individually configurable graphics at all times. At the same level, the function icons are arranged vertically on the driver's side of the Control Display. The driver can then switch from one to the other by swiping. The QuickSelect fast access technology allows direct access to the desired function without having to go to a submenu. And once the relevant settings have been selected, a quick tap on the home icon at the bottom edge of the screen is enough to return to the home screen. Next to the home symbol are now the symbols for direct access to the climate control menu, the All Apps menu and Apple CarPlay® / Android Auto™, if activated.

 

The new, flat menu structure makes it much easier to activate functions and make settings. The vehicle's digital content - like the hardware, in the form of the BMW Curved Display - is designed to reinforce the driver-centric character for which BMW is renowned. To ensure intuitive operation on the move, the graphical user interface and menu structure adopt a layout developed by BMW Group Design, which consistently expresses the brand's spirit.

 

Braking Technology and Agility:
The M-specific integrated braking system of the X1 M35i xDrive offers superior braking precision, with the option of M Compound brakes, which combine lightweight materials and efficient design. Among the standard features of the updated BMW iDrive in the new BMW X1 M35i xDrive is the latest generation of the cloud-based BMW Maps navigation system. In addition, the services and apps already introduced in the new BMW X1 are also available with BMW Operating System 9. For example, the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant and other voice-controlled assistants, the BMW ConnectedDrive Store, BMW remote software updates, smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay® / Android Auto™ and My Modes can also be used in the new BMW X1 M35i xDrive. Furthermore, with the optional Personal e-SIM, the car's antenna system is set up to work with 5G mobile network technology.

 

BMW Operating System 9 also lays the foundation for a highly individualised selection of additional digital services. With the new BMW Digital Premium, customers gain access to an expanded BMW ConnectedDrive Store. This means that they can use all the apps available in their country, e.g. for music streaming, news or gaming, on a subscription basis. BMW Digital Premium also features improved BMW Maps navigation functions and extended functionality for the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, as well as additional My Modes. Optional benefits include data usage for all digital services and apps available from the BMW ConnectedDrive Store, including music streaming. BMW Digital Premium can be downloaded in the car from the BMW ConnectedDrive Store, via the My BMW App or online. Customers can choose between monthly or annual payment plans, which offer maximum flexibility in selecting digital services tailored to their personal requirements.
