Caraval by Stephanie Garber is the first book of the "Caraval Series".

Scarlett Dragna, a seventeen year old girl, with her sister Donatella have never left the island where they were born until one day Scarlett receives a letter with an invitation to enter the caraval,the faraway, once-a-year performance where the audience participates in the show, with the purpose to win the final award, a wish. People will do anything to take the award for themshelves but Scarlett just wants her and her sister to enter the world where magic outweighs the reality and where almost evrything is possible. Having that dream of entering the caraval since she was a child she is ready to do anything to go there. But her cruel father has arranged a marriage for her, and if she flees, he will hunt her and bring her back to the island where she and her sister will be trapped forever. Knowing that, she loses hope of her dreams coming true, but a mysterious sailor shows up and volunteer to help her. But, as soon as they arrive, Tella is kiddnaped by someone and Scarlett has only 5 nights to find her or she will be lost forever. Before the game begins Scarlett is given a warning, that Caraval is only a game but this is hard to believe because her sister has dissapeared. As the days pass, she will find herself lost in a game of love, heartbreak and magic. She has to clear her mind and take action or it will be too late for her sister.
