The Cruel Prince by Holly Black is the first book of the "Folk of the Air" series. It follows a young mortal girl named Jude Duarte. Her parents were murdered when she was young and she and her sister, Taryn and half sister Vivienne were taken to Elfhame by the murderer of their parents, Madoc Grand, General of the Elfhame and also Vivienne's biological father. There, she and her sister Taryn, will be repeatedly tormented by the Prince Cardan Greenbriar and his friends. But Jude has had enough of that. She will stand up for herself and her sister with catastrophic concequences and face the wrath of the Prince. Also Jude wants to prove to everybody that she is not just a mortal girl. In the proscess, she will kill, lie and make a deal with Prince Dein. But will she succeed or will she remain a powerless ''stupid'' mortal girl?
