Haiku

 Haiku

The haiku is a small traditional Japanese poem also called the poem of one breath. It is consisted of 17 syllables, 5 in the first line , 7 and 5 in the end although traditionally they were written in a single line. They often refer to the seasons (kigo) and nature and they are about a specific moment. It originally was an opening part of a larger Japanese poem named renga until they begun to be written as stand alone poems.

Steps for writing a haiku:

1. Choose a topic including an image of nature. For example, you can get inspired by looking at your garden. Find words which describe the five senses (sound, taste, smell etc.) that are connected with it. You can also use the words such as winter and spring directly.

2. Write the first two lines about it. The first usually shows a picture of stillness and the second of move.

3. Try to combine the lines above into the third one which is their result and comes as surprise.
